Iran fears direct Israel strikes on leaders, key infrastructure, expert says

Iran is deliberately refraining from launching a wide-ranging, direct assault on Israel because it fears retaliatory strikes against its senior leadership and critical infrastructure, an Iran researcher told 103FM.

Beni Sabti, an Iran researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies, explained that Iran's primary concern is Israel's ability to target the "most important part" of the regime. He noted that Iran fears Israeli involvement because "we are going straight to the center," focusing on senior officials and institutions vital to the regime's survival, such as the Revolutionary Guards' internal security headquarters.

Sabti described elements within the Revolutionary Guards as "rogue elements" and compared Iran's current mode of operation to that of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. He suggested that these elements might be testing Israel's limits, warning, "woe to them."

He also highlighted the severe impact of recent US strikes on regional communications towers, stating that 116 towers were taken down, significantly hindering functionality. Sabti added that the public's well-being is not a consideration for the Revolutionary Guards, emphasizing the severity of these strikes.
