Iran President says Afghanistan, Pakistan blocked attempts to infiltrate Iran during war

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that Afghanistan and Pakistan played a role in thwarting attempted incursions into Iran during a recent 40-day conflict. Pezeshkian asserted that armed groups tried to attack Iranian border posts and infiltrate the country, but neighboring nations responded by deploying forces to secure their borders and prevent unauthorized crossings.

While stressing Iran's commitment to a diplomatic path for ending the conflict, Pezeshkian also addressed retaliatory actions. He stated that Tehran had responded to attacks launched from U.S. military bases in neighboring countries, arguing that Iran could not permit its territory to be targeted without response.

Afghanistan and Pakistan responded by deploying groups to secure their respective borders and made clear that no one would be allowed to cross into Iran from their territories to create unrest.

Turning to diplomacy, Pezeshkian characterized the United States as "untrustworthy." However, he also suggested that the current circumstances represent the "best time" for Iran to pursue and achieve an agreement. He conveyed a sense of national unity and strength, claiming Iran is perceived as "victorious and powerful" post-conflict.

Pezeshkian emphasized the need for Iran to move beyond a state of "neither war nor peace," stating, "You cannot fight forever; at some point, it has to be brought to an end." His government is reportedly engaged in near-daily discussions focused on diplomacy and finding ways to extricate Iran from its current strategic position.
