Iran's Pezeshkian tells Hamas chief that Iran will support any decision made in Gaza - report

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has affirmed that Tehran will support any initiative or decision undertaken by Palestinian leaders in the ongoing indirect negotiations concerning Gaza. This commitment was communicated during a phone call with Khalil al-Hayya, the head of Hamas' political bureau, according to Iranian state media.

Pezeshkian's statement signals Iran's backing for decisions made by Palestinian representatives in the complex diplomatic process. This comes amid reports that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had previously advised Hamas against signing a disarmament deal, known as the BoP agreement.

Axios reported that Hamas delegation members met with IRGC officials during a recent visit to Iran for the funeral of former supreme leader Ali Khamenei. A senior U.S. official also claimed Iran attempted to persuade Hamas to reject the deal, though the group reportedly chose not to heed that advice. Officials from the White House Board of Peace commented to The Jerusalem Post that "Hamas had a lot of concerns. It took months of delicate negotiations to bring us to this breakthrough, and we will move in the coming weeks to advance its implementation."
