Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has openly acknowledged the country's severe economic challenges, particularly concerning inflation and significant imbalances in the supply of water, electricity, gas, and gasoline. Speaking in a televised address, Pezeshkian stated that his government is working to reduce inflation and highlighted inherited "considerable imbalances" across various sectors, including the environment and banking.

He specifically referenced recent threats from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding unprecedented sanctions, noting that "enemies have openly threatened to impose unprecedented sanctions on the country." Since taking office in July 2024, Iran has contended with a combination of war, sanctions, political pressure, and attacks, according to the president.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi characterized economic warfare as a recurring tactic by Washington, asserting that Iran has developed strategies to cope. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned the U.S. against escalating sanctions, suggesting they could backfire, and shared a cartoon implying the economic war would harm the U.S. itself. Meanwhile, Mohsen Rezaee, the new head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, issued a warning to neighboring oil-rich countries against participating in any economic war targeting Iran.
