Iran says it thwarted American drone infiltration attempt in Strait of Hormuz

Iran says it attacked an American drone that tried to enter what it calls a protected area of the Strait of Hormuz, escalating a confrontation already focused on the strategic waterway.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the action on Sunday. In a statement carried by Iranian state radio and television, it said the drone was remotely piloted and had attempted to enter the area. The IRGC declared that the strait remained under Iran's control and warned that hostile moves would draw a decisive response.

This strategic waterway is under the control of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and any enemy move to kill children will be met with a decisive response.

Iran's army also issued a direct warning to Washington, saying it must understand that it had no choice but to leave the region and end what it called its “evil” actions. The report said the announcement came hours after the army claimed it had launched several ballistic missiles at a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier and destroyer.

Iran said those vessels had been harassing Iranian ships and taking part in a naval blockade. The IRGC separately claimed it had targeted three oil tankers traveling through an unauthorized route in the strait, along with three vessels it described as affiliated with the United States. The report said Iran continued to tighten its hold on the waterway while Washington strengthened its blockade of Iranian ports and ships.
