Iran-US tensions escalate, ending fragile truce

The fragile truce between the United States and Iran has shattered, plunging the region back into heightened military tension. This escalation has put ongoing negotiations between the two nations on hold, undoing recent efforts toward de-escalation.

The immediate trigger for the breakdown was rising tension in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy trade. A series of incidents involving vessels, drone attacks, and a strong military response marked a point of no return. President Donald Trump announced that the United States was preparing for another night of strikes against Iran, just hours after declaring the ceasefire over.
