Iran warns non-compliant ships risk fines and seizure in Strait of Hormuz

Iran has issued a stern warning that vessels failing to comply with its transit arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz risk severe penalties, including fines, detention, and confiscation. The warning was posted by the Persian Gulf Strait Authority, a new body established by Iran to manage the strait.

The move significantly heightens risks for charterers and shipowners whose vessels navigate the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy supplies. The PGSA has updated its list of non-compliant vessels for voyages related to the Persian Gulf, and ships engaging in operations with these vessels will also face restrictions.

Owners and charterers seeking to have their vessels removed from the restricted list must submit a formal request with supporting explanations to Iran's maritime authorities. The authority has also stated that vessels involved in ship-to-ship transfers or transshipment with non-compliant vessels will be added to the restricted list.
