Iranian Media Report Explosion Sounds Near Khark Island and Jask

Explosion sounds were reported near Khark Island and the Iranian city of Jask as tensions between Tehran and Washington continued to rise.

Iranian news agency Tasnim said a U.S. missile attack struck a small Iranian oil tanker about four miles from Khark Island, a major oil terminal in the Persian Gulf. The agency reported no deaths and said the ship had been evacuated.

In response to any attack on Iranian ships, U.S. bases and interests in the region will be targeted severely by the Iranian Armed Forces.

Iran responded with a warning from the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, the armed forces command responsible for wartime operations. Its message said the U.S. military had threatened to target three Iranian oil tankers. “In response to any attack on Iranian ships, U.S. bases and interests in the region will be targeted severely by the Iranian Armed Forces,” it said.

Hussein Mohibi, a spokesman for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, also said no technological system could deceive Iran’s surveillance capability in the Strait of Hormuz. He added: “Your technological empire belongs to our Persian Gulf youth. Return to the Bay of Pigs.”
