Iranian singer sentenced to four years in prison for concert performance

An Iranian singer has been sentenced to four years in prison for her performance at a concert in Tehran, accused by the judiciary of "inciting corruption and debauchery." Hiwa Sefizadeh was arrested in late February when security forces raided a venue where she was performing.

Reports on whether the concert had official permits remain conflicting. However, the cultural center where the event took place subsequently suspended its activities. Nearly six months after the performance, Sefizadeh spoke publicly for the first time via Instagram on Wednesday.

"I have been working in the field of Iranian music for years, singing and teaching," Sefizadeh stated. She added that she has consistently tried to pursue her work despite facing numerous restrictions. The court's verdict followed these statements, imposing the four-year sentence.
