Thailand leads the group with six points from two matches, while Iraq, the United Arab Emirates and Turkmenistan each have three points. Iraq and Thailand have played two matches, while the UAE and Turkmenistan have played three.

Victory by any score would give Iraq first place and direct qualification, with the ranking settled in Iraq’s favor through the head-to-head rule. A draw would leave Iraq second and waiting for the comparison of the best runners-up across the groups. A defeat would make qualification extremely difficult, with Iraq left competing for a best-runner-up place on three points.

The possibilities became more favorable after the UAE defeated Turkmenistan. Iraq had restored its position in the race by beating the UAE 2-1, making up for its opening-round setback against Turkmenistan.

Asian Football Confederation regulations use head-to-head results first, followed by goal difference, when teams finish level on points. The eight group winners qualify directly for the 2027 finals, along with the seven best second-placed teams, joining hosts China.
