Iraqi PM: No foreign soldiers in Iraq after October 1

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced that foreign troops will completely withdraw from the country by October 1, marking the end of the International Coalition's military mission. This decision follows discussions with U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, Brett McGurk.

Al-Sudani confirmed that the agreed-upon timeline will be adhered to, with the coalition's military operations concluding on September 30. He stated that October 1 will signify a new era for Iraq, free from any foreign military presence, as the nation will ensure its own security and stability through its domestic capabilities.

The discussions also underscored the critical importance of placing all weapons under the sole control of the Iraqi state. This move is seen as fundamental for enhancing security, fostering stability, and upholding state sovereignty.

An agreement was reached during al-Sudani's mid-July visit to Washington, confirming the finalization of the coalition's military mission. Moving forward, relations between Iraq and the United States are expected to focus on cooperation and partnership in economic, developmental, and security fields, based on mutual respect for sovereignty and shared interests.
