Israel arrests nine at Tel Aviv protest against West Bank settler violence

Nine people were arrested by Israeli police at a demonstration in Tel Aviv protesting settler violence in the occupied West Bank. Hundreds gathered on Kaplan Street to decry the escalating attacks and Israeli military rule in the Palestinian territory.

This protest occurred just a day after Israeli forces killed four Palestinians in the West Bank town of Tal, near Nablus. The incident unfolded during an incursion by settlers who attempted to enter homes. Residents confronted the settlers, leading to an exchange of fire. Video evidence reportedly shows a Palestinian seizing a rifle from a settler and shooting him before being killed by soldiers. Three other Palestinians died, and four were injured in the confrontation.

In response to the Tal incident, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government ordered a widespread military operation across the West Bank. Israeli forces arrested nearly 50 Palestinians in Tal and raided approximately 70 homes. The Palestinian Prisoner's Society condemned these actions as "collective punishment," noting that at least 80 Palestinians were detained across the West Bank the day after the shooting.
