Israel: October 7th survivor dies by suicide; Italy's far-right party gains ground

A young Israeli man who survived the October 7th Hamas attacks, witnessing the deaths of his girlfriend and best friend, has died by suicide. Roei Shalev was found dead in his car, which he had set on fire on Friday evening in Tel Aviv. His death adds another layer of tragedy to the aftermath of the attacks, as his mother had also died by suicide just two weeks prior.

Meanwhile, in Italy, the far-right party Futuro Nazionale, established in February by retired general Roberto Vannacci, is reportedly doubling its number of deputies. The party, polling at 4.5%, is seen as challenging the ultraconservative government on its own turf and could complicate Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's re-election prospects.

Separately, Rodney Mims Cook Jr., chairman of the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts and involved in a ballroom project, expressed inspiration from St. Petersburg during a visit to Russia. Cook, who has been visiting the city for 30 years, described his work in the city's palaces.
