Israel Threatens to Send Iran ‘Back to the Stone Age’

Israel’s defense minister has threatened to plunge Iran into darkness and return it to the “Stone Age” if Tehran launches an attack, promising a response without limits.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said Israel would strike Iran’s critical military and civilian infrastructure, including its energy facilities. “If Iran attacks, Israel will no longer be bound by any restrictions when striking back,” he said, according to Reuters. Katz added that Israel was prepared for both defense and offense, and that the Israel Defense Forces had prepared a retaliation plan.

Katz also said growing economic pressure and fears of domestic unrest could push Tehran toward “desperate decisions,” according to The Times of Israel. His warnings presented any Iranian attack as a trigger for a far broader assault on the country’s infrastructure.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu went further, expressing confidence that the Islamic Republic could soon collapse as the United States resumed attacks. “The regime is now on the brink. They are weaker than ever. They are fighting for their survival. I firmly believe that we can eliminate this threat once and for all, meaning overthrow the regime,” Netanyahu said. He described that as the central task still ahead, but one that was close and within reach.

Netanyahu argued that Iran had attacked other countries but had not attacked Israel because its leaders knew Israel’s strength and determination. The comments came before the Oct. 27 general election, with some polls showing Netanyahu behind and opposition leaders accusing him of failing on Iran.
