Israeli Airstrike Kills Family of Six in Gaza, Medics Say

An Israeli airstrike on Tuesday killed an entire family of six in Gaza City, including a father, his wife, and their four children. Health officials confirmed the deaths occurred when the strike hit their home in the Sabra neighborhood.

The victims were identified as Firas Al-Masri, his wife Salsabeel, and their three daughters and one son. The Israeli military acknowledged carrying out the strike, asserting that its intended target was a Hamas fighter. The military stated it is currently looking into the results of the attack.

This strike is part of a broader pattern of violence. Since Friday, the Israeli military has reported killing three fighters from Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Two of these individuals were identified as participants in the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, during which they allegedly held Israeli hostages.

According to Gaza health officials, the deaths of the Al-Masri family contribute to a toll of over 1,150 Palestinians, predominantly civilians, killed by Israeli attacks since an October ceasefire. Hamas typically does not disclose its own losses. While the truce halted major fighting, near-daily Israeli strikes have continued. Israel maintains it is targeting militants, while four Israeli soldiers have been killed by fighters in Gaza during the same period. The conflict began with Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel, which Israeli tallies say killed 1,200 people and resulted in approximately 250 hostages being taken. Gaza health officials report that Israel's subsequent offensive has killed more than 73,000 Palestinians.
