Israeli attacks wound eight in Lebanon amid Rome talks

Israeli airstrikes and shelling targeted towns in southern Lebanon's Tyre district, injuring eight people on Thursday, the Lebanese Health Ministry reported. The strikes occurred as the seventh round of U.S.-mediated ceasefire negotiations between Beirut and Tel Aviv concluded.

Israeli drones hit the al-Malaab neighborhood in Burj al-Shamali municipality, near Tyre. Three additional strikes were launched between the southern towns of al-Mansouri and Majdal Zoun. One strike destroyed a civilian home, according to Al Jazeera's correspondent Zeina Khodr.

These attacks follow a booby-trapped explosion that killed two Israeli soldiers and injured four on Wednesday during a search operation in Majdal Zoun. This marked the first Israeli casualties since a truce was announced two months prior.

Lebanon's Health Ministry states that Israel's recent military escalation since March 2 has killed 4,333 people and injured over 12,000. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported that Israel fired 113 projectiles into southern Lebanon on Wednesday, the highest number recorded since June 21.

The Lebanese army's attempt to reopen roads in al-Mansouri was halted by the Lebanese-Israeli "Mechanism Committee," which operates under Israeli army control of the border. The Israeli army has designated the village a "restricted military zone."

Israeli forces have also detonated explosions near Beaufort Castle, a UNESCO-listed heritage site. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz claimed these targeted Hezbollah tunnel systems intended for infiltration into the Galilee, though no evidence of tunnels has been provided.
