Israeli lawyer arrested after drugs disguised as eyelash remover arrive in cargo shipment

An Israeli lawyer was arrested at Ben-Gurion Airport on Tuesday on suspicion of smuggling drugs into the country, according to a police statement issued Wednesday.

The drugs arrived in a cargo shipment, not on a passenger aircraft, and were processed through customs. Airport investigators discovered GHB, also known as liquid ecstasy, concealed within bottles labeled as false eyelash removal solution. The package originated in England and was sent to Israel via Turkey.

Following the discovery, Israel Police tracked the package to its intended recipient, a Tel Aviv resident lawyer, and arrested him upon delivery. During a subsequent search of the lawyer's home, police seized a variety of additional substances suspected to be drugs, including more GHB, heroin, and ecstasy, as well as an undisclosed amount of foreign currency.

On Wednesday, the courts granted police an extension for the suspect's detention until August 16. The arrest is part of ongoing efforts to combat drug smuggling and trafficking. Separately, Tel Aviv law enforcement conducted large-scale operations across the city on Tuesday night, seizing hundreds of thousands of shekels in cash and various drugs, while also issuing numerous traffic tickets.
