Istanbul braces for strong thunderstorms and heavy rain starting Saturday

Istanbul's Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has issued a weather alert, warning of strong thunderstorms and heavy rainfall expected to impact the city from Saturday onwards. Residents are urged to take precautions as the weather system approaches.

Currently, Istanbul is experiencing mild temperatures, with highs reaching 29°C during the day and dropping to 22°C at night. Winds are blowing moderately from the northeast, and humidity levels range between 40% and 90%. Sea temperatures are recorded at 24°C.

The forecast indicates that Friday will be cloudy with scattered thunderstorms, potentially bringing 3 to 7 kg of rain per square meter. The intensity is predicted to increase on Saturday, with heavy thunderstorms expected to deliver 10 to 20 kg of rain per square meter, and the high temperature will be around 25°C.

By Monday, the weather is expected to return to seasonal norms, with clear skies and temperatures reaching up to 30°C. The clear weather is forecast to continue through Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures potentially climbing to 31°C on Tuesday, and no rain is expected on either day.
