Italian B&B sends anti-Israel message to Israeli guest, prompting cancellation

An Israeli traveler canceled a family birthday trip to a Tuscan bed-and-breakfast after the host learned her nationality and sent a message supporting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement.

The woman, who asked not to be identified, had booked two nights at B&B L’Imbrunire in Tuscany for September 21-23 through Holidu. She contacted the property on WhatsApp to ask whether she could pay directly instead of through the booking platform. The host asked her to cancel the online reservation so they could arrange the booking directly.

They didn’t explicitly say that I couldn’t stay there. However, the message was very strongly worded and made me feel that I might not be welcome or safe if I did stay there. That was where the conversation ended.

The traveler told The Jerusalem Post that the property did not explicitly tell her she could not stay. But, she said, “the message was very strongly worded and made me feel that I might not be welcome or safe if I did stay there.” She canceled the reservation after the exchange.

She then used Google reviews to publicize what happened, saying that many comments from her and her friends appeared on the business listing before being deleted. “I never imagined that in 2026 I would experience something like this in Europe,” she said. “I approached them simply as a traveler, excited about visiting Italy with my family. The moment they discovered I was Israeli, that changed.”
