Italy Reigns Supreme in European Summer Tourism for 2026

Italy has solidified its position as Europe's premier summer tourist destination for 2026. Online travel agencies report a 51.2% saturation rate, significantly higher than competitors like Spain (42.8%) and France (32.9%). Despite this high demand, Italy offers a lower average daily rate of 153 euros compared to Spain's 170 euros and Greece's 195 euros.

Regions such as Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, and the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano are experiencing the highest occupancy rates. These are closely followed by Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Sicily, and Tuscany, all exceeding the national average. June and July saw substantial increases in saturation, with 13.4% and 10% growth respectively compared to the previous year. Lakeside areas are particularly popular, showing the highest saturation at 54%, alongside spa and seaside resorts both at 51%.

International interest in Italy is further evidenced by a 26% rise in air travel searches compared to last year, with notable increases from Poland (76%), Germany (66%), and Spain (48%). The period around Ferragosto (August 14-16) also shows a 17% surge in flight bookings.

Mazzi also noted that data from the Ministry of Interior's 'Alloggiati Web' platform shows a 4.43% increase in national arrivals in the first half of the year, with Calabria, Umbria, and Piedmont leading the growth.
