Italy has temporarily suspended its open-border travel with Spain, pausing its participation in the Schengen agreement for one month. This decisive action was taken in response to a major surge of migrants crossing into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta from Morocco.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced the suspension on Friday, stating it was a necessary measure to protect Italian citizens and defend European frontiers. He explained that the situation in Ceuta, with thousands of migrants arriving, made this provisional step "unavoidable" under EU regulations.
