Itzapa case: Firefighter candidate who accepted charges testifies before tribunal

Jorge Callejas, an aspiring firefighter who accepted the charges in April, testified before Guatemala’s High-Risk Court B in the Itzapa case.

The hearing took place as the tribunal continued the trial of seven former National Civil Police officers. Prosecutors accuse the former officers of the extrajudicial executions of Canadian citizen Nelson Santamaría and Guatemalan citizen Eldin Choc.

Callejas’s appearance adds his account to proceedings involving the two deaths and the former police officers facing trial. The hearing continued before the high-risk tribunal.
