Iyabo Ojo defends ex-husband’s prominent role at daughter’s wedding

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has clarified her reasons for ensuring her ex-husband played a prominent role in their daughter Priscilla Ojo's wedding, stating her commitment to breaking negative family cycles.

I don’t know, there’s something called ancestral curses. And we Africans believe in it. Christians also. I believe that if you do not want something to continue, you have to be able to break it.

During an appearance on The Morayo Show, Ojo explained that she consciously decided not to let her personal differences with her ex-husband affect their child. She expressed a strong belief in disrupting unhealthy generational patterns, citing her own parents' separation as a factor. "I believe that if you do not want something to continue, you have to be able to break it," she stated, emphasizing her determination for her children not to repeat the mistakes of previous generations.

Ojo highlighted that her ex-husband remains Priscilla's father and deserved to witness a major milestone in his daughter's life. "Her father is not dead. He’s alive. So why can’t he be there? He didn’t wrong her. Me and him fell out. It has nothing to do with her," she asserted, stressing that her marital issues should not extend to their children.

So I made up my mind that whatever situation had happened, because my dad and my mum were also not together, every mistake they had made that I have made, my children will not make it.

The actress also addressed perceptions of her parenting style, admitting to being firm but ultimately believing her children understood her approach. Priscilla Ojo married Tanzanian singer Juma Jux in 2025, and the couple welcomed a son, Rakeem Ayomide Mkambala, in August 2025.
