A political earthquake has shaken the local administration in İzmir following the Republican People's Party's (CHP) decision to appoint former Çiğli Mayor Utku Gümrükçü as the new provincial chairman. This move has prompted İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay to initiate a series of urgent meetings.

Sources indicate that Mayor Tugay first convened with CHP municipal council members at 1 p.m. in a reportedly heated session.
