Izmir opens seventh affordable 'City Restaurant' amid economic crisis

Amidst challenging economic conditions, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has launched its seventh "City Restaurant" in the Konak district, aiming to ensure citizens have access to healthy and affordable meals. This new location, situated in the Toros area of Konak's Levent neighborhood, offers a four-course menu for just 25 lira, mirroring the pricing at the Yamanlar branch. This is half the price of the standard 50 lira charged at other City Restaurants.

Our aim was to reach all Izmir residents, and we are expanding our service network in line with this goal. Today we opened our seventh branch in Konak Levent Mahallesi. Here, as in our Yamanlar branch, we will offer four types of meals for 25 lira.

Pınar Salman, from the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality's Grand Plaza Tourism company, highlighted the project's goal of reaching more residents. "Our aim was to reach all Izmir residents, and we are expanding our service network in line with this goal," Salman stated. She noted that the new restaurant has a daily capacity of 300 meals and that site selection prioritizes areas with need and a lack of similar establishments to avoid negatively impacting local businesses.

Citizens are very pleased with our restaurants. When determining our new branches, we prioritize areas in need, while also ensuring there are no similar businesses in the area and that local tradespeople are not negatively affected.

The initiative also includes special services like free meals on holidays and the "Askıda Yemek" (Food on the Hanger) program, which promotes solidarity. This project, a key election promise, has seen rapid growth in the number of branches since the current administration took office.

Citizens expressed strong approval of the City Restaurants. Hamdi Direkler, who supports his family by selling lighters, called the service "extraordinary" for people like him. Another resident, Aysun Tamgöz, praised the affordable prices and voiced her support for the mayor, describing him as "a very excellent person."
