Jackson Chourio shines as Player of the Week, Brayan Rocchio excels in defense

Venezuelan talent is once again capturing the spotlight in Major League Baseball, with two players earning prestigious weekly awards. Jackson Chourio, an outfielder from Zulia, was named the National League Player of the Week, while infielder Brayan Rocchio from Carora received the Play of the Week award for a remarkable defensive maneuver.

Chourio, 22, achieved this accolade for the first time in his burgeoning career with the Milwaukee Brewers. Over the past week, he delivered a stellar performance, hitting .448 with five home runs and 10 runs batted in across six games. He consistently hit at least one extra-base hit and drove in a run in every game played.

This recognition for Chourio carries historical significance for the Brewers. He shares the honor with his teammate, pitcher Jacob Misiorowski. This marks the first time in the franchise's history that two players have simultaneously received the weekly award, a feat last accomplished in the National League by legends Albert Pujols and Paul Goldschmidt of the Cardinals in August 2022.

Meanwhile, Cleveland Guardians shortstop Brayan Rocchio earned Play of the Week honors for a game-saving defensive gem. In the top of the eighth inning with the game tied, Rocchio executed a spectacular diving stop on a ground ball and, in one fluid motion, completed a double play to preserve his team's lead. This marks Rocchio's second Play of the Week award in his MLB career, solidifying his reputation as one of the league's most reliable fielders.
