Jakarta governor reveals 7 infrastructure projects ahead of city's 500th anniversary

Jakarta's administration is advancing seven key infrastructure projects to enhance resident comfort and prepare for the city's 500th anniversary. Governor Pramono Anung and Deputy Governor Rano Karno outlined these initiatives, aiming to create a more convenient, accessible, and enjoyable Jakarta.

Key projects include the development of waste-to-energy plants in Bantargebang, Tanjungan, and Sunter to bolster waste management. Efforts to reduce flood risks involve river normalization and dredging. A significant undertaking is the construction of an underground tunnel connecting buildings around the HI Roundabout to the MRT station, which will also feature space for micro, small, and medium enterprises.

Further developments include a pedestrian deck in Dukuh Atas for seamless public transport integration, the demolition of abandoned monorail pylons on Jalan Rasuna Said, and the construction of a connecting bridge between the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) and Ancol. The administration also plans to complete the unfinished Sumber Waras Hospital.

Beyond infrastructure, the provincial government is enhancing public transportation, offering free fares to 15 demographic groups. Deputy Governor Rano Karno stated that Jakarta is evolving into a global city while prioritizing citizen welfare. The events celebrating Jakarta's 499th anniversary are expected to boost tourism and hotel occupancy.
