Jakarta Governor wants Persija to win title for city's 500th anniversary

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has expressed a strong desire for the newly appointed Persija Jakarta coach, Shin Tae-yong (STY), to lead the football club to a championship victory. This win would serve as a significant gift for Jakarta as it approaches its 500th anniversary in 2027.

Anung conveyed this hope during the Bank Jakarta x Persija Collaboration Kick-Off event. He believes that the South Korean coach's experience and reputation can inject fresh energy into Persija. "I want to experience a league championship and at the same time, it is a gift for Jakarta's 500 years," Anung stated, emphasizing that government backing for Persija is part of fostering pride among Jakarta's citizens.

The governor also highlighted the broader implications of the collaboration between Bank Jakarta and Persija. He sees it as more than just a business or sports partnership; it's a component of developing Jakarta into a global city with a robust ecosystem for sports, entertainment, and large-scale events. Anung stressed that the provincial government is actively creating opportunities for various sports activities, aiming to position Jakarta not just as a venue for matches but as a destination for sport tourism.

Agus Haryoto Widodo, the President Director of Bank Jakarta, echoed the sentiment, stating that the partnership is a strategic move to deepen the bank's connection with the people of Jakarta. He noted that as Jakarta transforms into a global city, Bank Jakarta is also undergoing its own transformation, focusing on digital advancement, professionalism, and maintaining community ties. The collaboration is expected to provide additional momentum for Persija in the upcoming season, especially with Shin Tae-yong at the helm, and aims to fulfill the shared goal of a championship title among fans.
