Jakarta Holds Grand Commemoration for Betawi Clerics and Habibis at Monas

Jakarta's provincial government is hosting a grand commemoration for Betawi clerics and Habibis at the National Monument (Monas) on Friday. This event, part of the city's 499th anniversary festivities, anticipates a gathering of approximately 20,000 people from Jakarta and surrounding areas.

The commemoration aims to express deep respect for the Betawi clerics and Habibis who significantly contributed to religious outreach, education, and social development in Jakarta. The theme, "Strengthening Religious Harmony Amidst Diversity, Transforming Jakarta Towards a Global City," highlights the event's focus on unity and Jakarta's evolving identity.

Activities commenced Friday morning with Quranic recitations and cleaning initiatives at mosques and prayer halls across the city. This was followed by visits to the graves of prominent Betawi clerics by government officials, including the Governor and Vice Governor. The main event, a grand commemoration, is scheduled for the afternoon and evening at Monas Plaza.

The Jakarta Transportation Agency has implemented traffic management measures around Monas to ensure the event proceeds without disrupting public mobility. Alternative routes have been provided for motorists navigating the affected areas.
