Jakarta Prepares Traffic Diversions for Independence Day Decorated Vehicle Carnival

Jakarta's Department of Transportation (Dishub) is preparing traffic management strategies to handle the anticipated crowds for the Decorated Vehicle Carnival, a highlight of Indonesia's 81st Independence Day celebrations on Monday, August 17. The event is set to cause temporary traffic diversions and adjustments from 7 PM to 11 PM in key areas.

The carnival will commence at Jalan Silang Merdeka Daya Barat-Monas, proceeding through Jalan M.H. Thamrin's eastern side, Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, and Jalan Jenderal Sudirman's eastern side, concluding at Jalan Galunggung-Taman Dukuh Atas Skatepark. To manage the flow, traffic control and diversions will be implemented situationally, with potential for lane closures if crowd density necessitates it, according to Dishub DKI Jakarta Head Budi Awaluddin.

Officers will continue to make adjustments situationally, adapting to the conditions and public movement on the ground.

In addition to the main procession, entertainment stages are planned for Monas, Sarinah, and the HI Roundabout, adding to the festive atmosphere. A significant presence of personnel will be on hand, with Dishub deploying approximately 500 officers and the DKI Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) assigning 1,225 personnel from August 16 to 17. These officers will be stationed at various points to ensure security and order.

Budi Awaluddin, along with Head of Satpol PP DKI Jakarta Satriadi Gunawan, conducted on-site monitoring at the National Monument (Monas) to oversee the preparations and public service readiness. They observed high public enthusiasm for the Independence Day celebrations, with visitor numbers expected to rise throughout the evening. Both officials emphasized the collaborative effort between Dishub and Satpol PP to ensure a safe and comfortable celebration for all attendees, urging the public to cooperate with traffic officers and adjust travel plans accordingly.
