Jakarta prioritizes student safety after school roof collapse; reconstruction planned for 2027

Jakarta's provincial government has declared student safety paramount following the partial collapse of the SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 09 school building in November 2024. Technical assessments have classified the structure as severely damaged and unfit for use, prompting its immediate closure.

To ensure continuity of education and prevent risks, the 270 affected students have been transferred to the adjacent SDN Kebayoran Lama Selatan 11. The head of Jakarta's Education Agency, Nahdiana, stressed that student safety is the top priority, but the right to education must also be upheld without compromising quality.

Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has assured that the issue is receiving special attention and will be resolved promptly. Safety measures, including fencing around the damaged building, are in place. The relocation and shift system are temporary solutions while the government plans for the future.
