Jakarta Reviews 26,247 KJP Applicants and Checks Wealth Profiles

Jakarta’s provincial government is rechecking the eligibility of 26,247 applicants for the second phase of the Jakarta Smart Card program, known as KJP.

Governor Pramono Anung said the review aims to prevent duplication and ensure the aid reaches the right recipients. The data matching process identified applications that needed clarification, including cases involving ownership of a four-wheeled vehicle, a house with a property tax value above 1 billion rupiah, or a family member employed as a civil servant.

Officials will verify the information. Applicants whose circumstances comply with the program’s rules will move into the next wave of distribution. Pramono said people who can afford to cover their own costs should do so, while families unable to afford them, including those in the poorest deciles one through five, should continue to receive an opportunity to qualify.

Overall, 661,209 students are scheduled to receive KJP assistance in the second phase’s first wave. Another group of 40,166 children are eligible but have not yet completed their applications. Pramono instructed the Education Department to identify those children and follow up on their cases.

My principle is that anyone who is currently able should complete it themselves. But families who cannot afford it, including those in deciles one to five, cannot simply be removed, so they must still be given an opportunity.
