Jamaica Rifle Association to host 10th President's Cup IPSC match

The Jamaica Rifle Association (JRA) is gearing up to host the 10th edition of its President's Cup Level III IPSC Match this Saturday, July 25. The event, held at the JRA Range, signifies a decade since the competition's inception in 2016 and will also introduce the association's inaugural official match booklet, a publication dedicated to the competition, its athletes, and the sport of practical shooting.

As a Level III match sanctioned by the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC), the President's Cup stands as one of the highest-level competitions outside of continental championships and the World Shoot. This year's match is particularly significant as Jamaica prepares to send its national team to Aruba for the Level IV Pan American Handgun Championship in August. The President's Cup offers a vital opportunity for the athletes to hone their skills before this major regional tournament.

Jamaican shooters have achieved notable success on the international stage in recent years. They have secured podium finishes at events like the Level IV Latin American Handgun Championship in Argentina and various championships in Florida and the USA. Notably, ten local competitors qualified for the Level V IPSC World Shoot in South Africa, where Anthony Johnson claimed the Grand Senior category title and Ryan Bramwell placed in the top 10 of the Production Optics Senior division. Both Johnson and Bramwell, along with female pistol captain Yeonie Campbell, have received RJR/Gleaner Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards in recent years.

Match Director Oshane Llewellyn described the President's Cup as a significant milestone, stating, "The President’s Cup is more than a competition, it is a showcase of discipline, resilience, and national pride. With our athletes preparing for the Pan American Championship, this match represents both a celebration of achievement and a launchpad for future success." The JRA has acknowledged the support of KIG, Pure Country, and Connelley Health & Wellness Centre for this year's event. Admission is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.
