Jamaican stars Wayne Wonder, Spragga Benz to headline pre-World Cup events in South Florida

The Caribbean community in South Florida is set to experience a taste of the upcoming World Cup with two pre-kickoff games scheduled for June 6 and 7. These events will feature the Jamaica U-20 team and will be capped off with performances by renowned Jamaican dancehall and reggae artists.

We are blessed and fortunate that seven of the World Cup games will be played in Miami. We are making maximum preparation for these games, and we intend that our young players are inspired by this occasion.

Lauderhill Vice Mayor Richard Campbell highlighted the significance of seven World Cup games being hosted in Miami. He stated that these pre-games are designed to generate enthusiasm among the Caribbean diaspora, including fans, businesses, and young athletes. Campbell emphasized the extensive 12-month planning effort to ensure the community fully embraces this historic moment.

We have been planning for the past 12 months to ensure that the community have this historic moment and experience with the world cup. We have these two events to actually kick off this World Cup and we have invited local teams to participate in these events.

On June 6, the Jamaica U-20 team will face Haiti U-20 at the Lauderhill sports complex, with dancehall artists Jahshii and Laa Lee providing entertainment. The following day, June 7, the Jamaica U-20 team will play Miami United FC at the Broward County sports complex, where veteran performers Wayne Wonder and Spragga Benz will take the stage. In addition to the main matches, youth clinics are planned to offer over 600 young people a valuable World Cup experience.

In addition to those feature games, we will be having youth clinic for over 600 youngsters and maximising whatever exposure we can, to have this World Cup experience for our youngsters, for our communities, spectators and business folks.
