JAMB, WAEC End Multiple O’Level Verification Charges, Set One-Time Fee at N4,000

Applicants seeking admission to Nigerian tertiary institutions will no longer have to pay repeatedly to verify the same academic result. Under a new arrangement between the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and the West African Examinations Council, candidates will pay N4,000 once to verify their WASSCE or O’Level results.

Candidates whose admissions fall under JAMB must complete the verification through the JAMB Verification Service platform. JAMB will then make the result available to the relevant tertiary institution for admission screening, processing and other administrative purposes.

The two bodies said the fee must be paid through the specified JAMB platform, not to individual institutions. Universities and other tertiary institutions have also been directed not to demand another payment for verifying the same WAEC result.

The policy follows meetings and consultations between JAMB and WAEC aimed at simplifying the process and reducing the financial and logistical pressure on admission seekers. WAEC has authorised JAMB to share verification outcomes with relevant institutions, allowing candidates to begin the process from home or any internet-enabled location instead of making repeated visits to schools or approved computer-based test centres.

“This arrangement is designed to ensure that candidates who have successfully verified their WASSCE O’ Level result through the Verification Service platform will not be required to repeat the same verification exercise,” the bodies said.
