Jamesi says he has settled legal dispute with former manager

Taiwanese chef Jamesi, whose real name is Cheng Chien-ke, said he has reached a settlement with his former manager, Chiu Hsiu-chu, bringing their business dispute to an end.

The dispute emerged last year and also involved television producer Wang Chun and his wife. Separately, prosecutors charged Jamesi over the establishment of Jam Sauce Co. about 10 years ago. They alleged that he deposited NT$2 million into the company's capital account as a loan, completed the capital verification process, and withdrew the money the following day.

At the first hearing at the Shilin District Court on the 20th, Jamesi admitted the offense. He said he did not understand the law at the time and had followed an accountant's advice to borrow money for the capital verification. He asked the court for a lighter sentence and a chance to receive a suspended sentence. Prosecutors said his status as a public figure gave him a social responsibility and recommended that any suspended sentence include a NT$500,000 payment to the national treasury. Otherwise, they recommended at least five months in prison without suspension.

In a Facebook post on the morning of the 2nd, Jamesi said he had decided to end the dispute. He wrote, "After fully communicating with Chiu Hsiu-chu, the person in charge of Jam Sauce Co., we have reached a settlement, bringing this turmoil to an end here."

He said both sides had invested time and effort while jointly running the brand, but differences in positions, understanding and communication had accumulated. Jamesi apologized to people who had followed the case and to those disturbed by it. He said both sides would respect each other's lives and future development, stop blaming each other over the past, and asked the public to give them space.
