Jamie Vardy returns to England and signs for Burnley

Jamie Vardy is back in English football. Burnley announced the signing of the 39-year-old striker, who joins from Italian Serie A club Cremonese until the end of the season.

Burnley manager Nicky Hayen welcomed Vardy’s experience and leadership, calling them highly valuable to the squad. Hayen said he believed the striker could make an important impact during the club’s campaign and added that Burnley were eager to see him in their claret and blue shirt.

Vardy began his career with Halifax Town and Fleetwood Town before joining Leicester City in 2012. He played a central role in Leicester’s 2015-16 Premier League triumph, one of European football’s most unexpected title wins. In 2019-20, he became the oldest player to finish as the Premier League’s leading scorer after scoring 23 goals.

He spent most of his career at Leicester, making 500 appearances and scoring 200 goals. During the 2025-26 season at Cremonese, he played 29 matches and scored seven goals.
