Jang Yoon-ju reveals past boyfriends' parents opposed relationships due to modeling career

Model and actress Jang Yoon-ju has opened up about the prejudice she faced in past relationships due to her profession. She revealed that the parents of her boyfriends often disapproved of her career as a model, leading to significant emotional distress.

When I dated, boyfriends' parents mostly didn't like me.

Jang explained that many parents held negative stereotypes about modeling. "I heard things like, 'I saw her naked in a magazine,' and 'I don't like people who do that kind of work,'" she recalled. This judgment, based solely on her profession without knowing her as a person, deeply hurt her. She emphasized that the societal perception of models has changed since her debut, but in the past, she often felt unwelcome and misunderstood.

The challenges extended to her marriage preparations. Jang shared that her husband's mother initially expressed concerns about a model entering their family. However, a joint appearance on an EBS program, which depicted Jang's ordinary family life and her mother's personality, helped to shift her mother-in-law's perspective. Her husband then used the broadcast to show his parents that Jang was not extravagant but lived a normal life, ultimately changing their minds.

I was hurt by these things and felt unwelcome. Many times, I was judged only by my job, not as a person. I cried a lot because of it.

Jang Yoon-ju married designer Jung Seung-min in 2015. They have one daughter. The experience highlights the persistent biases faced by individuals in certain professions and the effort required to overcome them.
