Janika Lõiv Reaches Top 20 at Mountain Bike World Cup

Estonian cyclist Janika Lõiv secured a top-20 finish at the fifth round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, achieving her best result of the season so far.

Lõiv started from the penultimate row of the grid, a challenging position for a rider who doesn't consider herself the most powerful starter. "I had to wait in traffic on the first lap," Lõiv explained. However, she managed to find her rhythm on the wide and open course, allowing her to choose her own pace for most of the race. She steadily advanced through the field, with the only discomfort being dust in her airways.

I started from the penultimate row and I'm not the most powerful rider, so as usual I had to wait in traffic on the first lap. From then on, however, I could choose my own pace for almost the entire race because the track was wide and open. I moved forward place by place, and the only unpleasantness was dust in my airways.

The Estonian rider felt her bike's suspension was well-tuned for the course, making even the descents enjoyable. As she approached the final lap, Lõiv attempted to overtake the rider in 15th place, increasing her tempo. Despite her efforts, she narrowly missed securing a higher position.

Prior to this event, Lõiv's best World Cup result this season was 22nd place, achieved in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, in late June. The World Cup series is set to continue in late August with the seventh stage in Haute Savoie, France.
