Japan donates $352,500 in digital fluorography units to Dushanbe health center

Dushanbe, Tajikistan – Health Center No. 14 in Dushanbe has received a significant upgrade to its diagnostic capabilities with the donation of three modern digital fluorography units from Japan. The equipment, valued at $352,500, is expected to substantially improve medical services in one of the capital's most densely populated areas.

The handover ceremony marked the completion of the project titled “Improvement of Medical Equipment at Health Center No. 14 in Dushanbe.” Dignitaries present included Ms. Arfiya Eri, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan; Keiko Furuta, Japan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan; Atoboy Sobirzoda, Deputy Head of the Dushanbe Health Department; and Homidjon Hamidzoda, Director of Health Center No. 14. Both Japanese and Tajik officials emphasized the strong, long-standing cooperation between the two nations.

Ms. Eri highlighted Japan's role as a reliable partner to Tajikistan for over 30 years, since the country's independence. The new fluorography units will enable Health Center No. 14, located in the Sino district, to diagnose diseases more effectively and at earlier stages, particularly infectious illnesses. The ability to use three units simultaneously will also allow the center to serve a larger patient volume more efficiently. Services will be accessible not only to Dushanbe residents but also to those in the neighboring Roudaki district.

This donation is part of Japan's broader commitment to healthcare in Tajikistan through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) program. Since 1996, Japan has supported 474 humanitarian projects in Tajikistan, totaling approximately $40 million, with 121 of these projects focused on the healthcare sector. The latest contribution to Health Center No. 14 underscores Japan's dedication to enhancing access to diagnostic services and strengthening preventive healthcare, including annual medical examinations for schoolchildren in the Sino district.
