Japan grants Kyrgyzstan $4 million for road equipment

Japan is set to provide Kyrgyzstan with a grant of approximately $4 million to bolster the Central Asian nation's road equipment. The agreement, signed by Kyrgyzstan's Finance Minister Ruslan Syinaliev and Japan’s Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Eri Arfiya, will facilitate the purchase of essential road and transport machinery.

This non-repayable assistance, amounting to 533 million yen, is intended to modernize Kyrgyzstan's technical capabilities. The Finance Ministry stated the funds will enhance the efficiency of work aimed at developing and upgrading the country's transport infrastructure, a critical component for economic activity and connectivity.

Beyond infrastructure, the two nations also explored avenues for further cooperation. Discussions included potential collaborations in healthcare, energy sector development, support for small and medium-sized businesses, urban transport solutions, and digitalization initiatives. The JDS scholarship program, marking its 20th anniversary in Kyrgyzstan in 2026, also received particular attention.
