Japanese Artist Yoshitomo Nara Shares Taipei Mayoral Candidate's 'Shady Fairness' Platform

A proposal by Democratic Progressive Party Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang to create "urban micro-forests" has gained international attention, notably through a share by renowned Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara. Nara commented on Shen's "shady fairness" concept, finding the phrase novel and engaging.

Shen Po-yang, speaking after a campaign event at Xiangshan Park, elaborated on his "shady fairness" platform. He explained that the concept advocates for the equitable distribution of tree shade across the city, arguing that a cool urban environment is a concern not only for Taiwanese residents but also for international tourists. Shen believes that achieving "shady fairness" means ensuring that tree shade is accessible everywhere in the city.

The candidate further detailed his plan, referencing the "3-30-300" rule, which aims to increase tree canopy cover to 30% and overall green coverage to 30% within four years. He clarified that these targets apply to urban areas, excluding mountainous regions. Shen emphasized that such initiatives are crucial for enhancing the city's appeal to visitors and improving the quality of life for its residents.

Expressing his delight at the attention his platform has received, Shen stated, "It is a happy thing to be able to discuss city affairs in this election." He hopes that this focus on urban greenery and equitable shade will resonate with Taipei's citizens and contribute positively to the election discourse.
