Javier Correa attacks two-match ban: 'You are not free to express yourself'

Javier Correa called his two-match suspension a joke and said footballers were not free to express themselves. The Colo-Colo striker received the ban from the ANFP Disciplinary Tribunal over gestures made after the Superclásico.

It is a joke. You are better off staying home drinking mate and taking the suspension, that's it.

Speaking on captain Arturo Vidal's YouTube channel, Correa questioned the tribunal's impartiality. He suggested that the identities and club loyalties of those issuing the verdict should be examined, and said proceedings should be broadcast so the public could see the decision-makers' reactions.

Correa insisted that the incident at the Estadio Nacional was not directed at Universidad de Chile fans. He said the reaction was aimed at cameramen and that he had not been addressing the crowd. He also said he feared his criticism could bring further punishment, joking that he might receive a life sentence for speaking out.

Despite his criticism, Correa apologized to Colo-Colo and its supporters. He said he had to take responsibility for his actions, but asked people to understand his position and said he tried to set an example every day.

Correa will miss Colo-Colo's next match, against Huachipato in Concepción on Sunday.
