JD Vance says he wants to do “as much of God’s work as possible,” even if it brings the end of the world

JD Vance says he wants to accomplish “as much of God’s work as possible” and would accept the end of the world if that is where it leads. The U.S. vice president made the remark during an August 31 interview with Christian podcaster Bryce Crawford, where he was promoting his second memoir, Communion.

Vance said he had “always been fascinated by end-times prophecy” and was convinced that the end times would come. He did not claim to know when. It could happen in thousands of years, he said, or within a few months.

What I am trying to focus on is accomplishing as much of God's work as possible right now. And if that leads to the end times, so be it.

The conversation turned to the subject after Crawford asked whether Vance believed in the end times. Crawford noted that Vance, as vice president of the United States, knew more than most people. The question prompted laughter from Vance, but he answered seriously.

Vance said he saw signs in current trends that could point to the end of the world, including the possible presence of the Antichrist. He singled out artificial intelligence, saying he felt a “dark and really strange spiritual energy” around some companies and uses of the technology. He mentioned virtual romantic partners and people using ChatGPT as a marriage counselor.

“That makes me really uncomfortable,” Vance said. He described separating human beings from the social dimension for which, in his view, God created them as “a little satanic” and “very serious.” Rather than focusing too heavily on the end times, which he said was probably harmful, Vance said he should concentrate on being the best leader possible for the United States.
