Jeju Seeks Farms for Green Tangerine Shipments

Jeju Province is taking proactive steps to support its local citrus industry by launching the '2026 Green Tangerine Shipping Farm Designation' program. This initiative, running until July 12, aims to bolster the stable production and distribution of green tangerines, a versatile fruit prized for its functional components like flavonoids and polyphenols. Unlike ripe tangerines, these green ones, primarily used for making teas, jams, and beverages, will have a designated shipping period from August 1 to September 15. Any distribution outside this window will incur penalties, ensuring a controlled market.

The program's core objectives are to enhance consumer trust through stringent pesticide residue management and to broaden stable sales channels for farmers. By designating specific farms, Jeju Province intends to meticulously manage the entire process from production to distribution, guaranteeing the safety and quality of its green tangerine produce. This aligns with the island's commitment to agricultural innovation and supporting its farming communities.

Designated farms will benefit from crucial support, including subsidies for dedicated packaging, residual pesticide testing, direct shipping costs, and maritime logistics. To qualify, farms must meet specific criteria, excluding newly established orchards (under five years) and those not registered with the agricultural management system. Successful applicants will also be required to complete a pre-shipment orchard management training session organized by the Agricultural Technology Center in June. This comprehensive approach underscores Jeju's dedication to fostering a thriving agricultural sector and boosting farmer incomes through strategic planning and support.
