Jerusalem Grand Slam 2026 to welcome athletes from 29 countries

Jerusalem is set to host the Jerusalem Grand Slam 2026, a significant international athletics competition, on Thursday, June 25, at the National Stadium in Givat Ram. The event will bring together around 76 athletes representing 29 countries, showcasing Jerusalem's expanding role in hosting major global sporting events.

Organized in collaboration with the Jerusalem Municipality and the Israel Athletics Association, the Grand Slam will feature competitors from Europe, North and South America, and Africa. Many of Israel's top track and field athletes are also scheduled to participate. Notable participating countries include the United States, Canada, Brazil, France, Greece, Ukraine, Hungary, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Ethiopia, and Uganda. The program also includes a 4x100-meter relay with national teams from Ukraine, Lithuania, and Poland.

For many athletes, this competition serves as a crucial opportunity to meet qualification standards and earn ranking points for the upcoming European Championships in August. Now in its third year, the Jerusalem Grand Slam has steadily increased its international profile. Last year's event saw Omri Shiff set a new Israeli record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 49.82 seconds, breaking a 34-year-old record.

Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion emphasized the event's significance, stating, “Jerusalem’s growing status on the global sports map.” He highlighted the city's continued efforts to attract international athletes and invest in sports infrastructure. Ami Baran, Chairman of the Israel Athletics Association, echoed this sentiment, noting that the participation of athletes from 29 countries carries "great significance" and reflects ongoing endeavors to bring major international sporting events to Israel.

In addition to the athletic events, a family fan zone will be available at the stadium, offering interactive activities and entertainment for visitors. The Jerusalem Grand Slam 2026 is scheduled to take place at the National Stadium in Givat Ram on Thursday, June 25.
