Jet ski crashes into tourist boat in Cartagena’s Cholón, with video key to investigation

A jet ski slammed into the front of a tourist boat in Cholón, Cartagena, sending a standing passenger flying sideways and prompting maritime authorities to begin checking what happened.

The collision took place in the waters of Cholón, on the southern side of Barú Island near the Rosario Islands. A video that began circulating on social media on Aug. 30 captures the moment the watercraft strikes the passenger boat.

The footage shows two people wearing orange life jackets aboard the jet ski. Inside the boat, which has a fabric roof, a man standing in a yellow life jacket is thrown toward one side by the force of the impact. The passengers who remained seated do not appear to fall into the water, although the boat rocks sharply from side to side.

Another boat and several waterside kiosks can be seen in the background. Cholón is a well-known tourist destination, famous for parties held on the water, where boats gather in the bay while visitors swim in its clear waters.

The Cartagena Port Captaincy said it is carrying out the necessary checks to establish the circumstances of the incident. The Colombian Maritime Authority said it would refrain from providing details or conclusions until it has verified official information, noting that the case could lead to administrative proceedings.
