JetBlue announces new Florida-Caracas route, boosting travel for Venezuelans

JetBlue announced its intention to establish flights connecting Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida with Simón Bolívar International Airport serving Venezuela's capital. The airline projects the new route to Caracas will begin operations before the end of 2026, with ticket sales starting in the coming months through official channels.

The launch of the inaugural flight is contingent on regulatory approvals from both countries' authorities. JetBlue is currently managing the administrative processes required to obtain operational authorization for South American airspace. The flights will utilize Airbus A320 aircraft, equipped with in-flight entertainment and Wi-Fi.

JetBlue stated that this new route will facilitate mass passenger transport, particularly for the significant Venezuelan population residing in South Florida. Dave Jehn, JetBlue's vice president of network planning and airline alliances, highlighted that South Florida serves as a key gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean. "The south of Florida is home to a large Venezuelan community, and this new route would facilitate connection between families and loved ones," he said.

The commercial offering aims to meet the demand for family-reunification travel from the southern U.S. Additionally, JetBlue is offering a special program for customers affected by the recent closure of Spirit Airlines, allowing them to apply for TrueBlue Mosaic status if they hold Silver or Gold loyalty status with Spirit.
