JI announces nationwide strike on Sept 3 against petroleum levy

Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) has called for a nationwide strike on September 3 to protest the government's petroleum levy. The party's Emir, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, issued a stern warning, stating that the ongoing sit-in campaign could escalate into a long march on Islamabad if relief is not provided to the public.

Rehman sharply criticized the current leadership, asserting, “The rulers have neither a vision nor the ability to govern. Their only vision is to loot the people.” He made these remarks while addressing JI supporters at a sit-in outside the Punjab chief minister’s house in Lahore. He highlighted that the protest movement has expanded beyond just three cities, with demonstrations now occurring in various parts of the country.

The JI chief urged party workers and supporters to intensify their efforts, suggesting the government is testing the public's patience. He also appealed to traders to join the September 3 strike, emphasizing the importance of defending public rights. A significant public gathering is scheduled for Faisalabad on Friday, signaling a potential escalation of the protest movement.
