Ji Chang-wook's 'Chief Detective 1958' hits No. 1 on Netflix global chart

The South Korean drama 'Chief Detective 1958,' starring Ji Chang-wook, has achieved the number one spot on Netflix's global chart for non-English television shows. According to Netflix's official site Tudum, the series recorded 10.5 million viewing hours in the past week, securing the top position.

'Chief Detective 1958' is an action-revenge drama adapted from a Naver webtoon. It tells the story of an ordinary father who transforms into a dangerous man to protect his daughter. Since its release on June 26, the show climbed to third place in its first week and secured the top spot in its second week.

The series has found significant success internationally, topping the charts in 11 countries including South Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, and Peru. It has also secured a place in the top 10 in a total of 79 countries. Another Korean drama, 'The Atypical Family,' ranked second with 4.7 million viewing hours, after holding the top spot for four weeks. 'The Atypical Family' sheds light on the realities of the broken Korean education system.

Other Korean content also performed well on the charts. 'The Bequeathed,' a series written by Yeon Sang-ho of 'Train to Busan' fame, ranked seventh. The non-English film category saw 'The Roundup: Punishment' starring Ma Dong-seok in second place. This crime-action comedy follows a husband and his ex-husband teaming up to rescue a kidnapped wife.
